Maths Word Problems

WALT: Create a maths word problem

Our task this week was to create a maths word problem slide.

I really enjoyed it because I got to make a maths word problem with my friend's name and I got to use what they like.

I found it really hard because I kept confusing myself on the maths word problems but I managed to get it in the end.

Maybe next time I could try harder to make more maths word problem slides.

Respect

WALT: Create a DLO about Respect

This week for writing our teacher (Miss Peters) gave us a task where we had to create a DLO about respect, and what it means.

Human Changes to the Environment

WALT: Write down what we learned in the Book of knowledge/Comprehension.

This week for reading, I read an article called Human Changes to the Environment which explains how humans were in the natural food chain before we came into the modern age with all our machines and cities.

The task was to write down 2 or more things we learned from the article.

I learned that humans learned how to grow crops and that it wasn't natural.
I also learned that every plant and animal in the natural ecosystem depends on other plants or animals for its survival.

Harakeke bracelets

WALT: Write a recount on what we did at tech

This week at tech we created a Harakeke/flax bracelet to give to someone.

I learned how to make a harakeke bracelet.

I enjoyed going to tech because making those were really fun.

I found it challenging because it was a bit hard to get used to the folding pattern, but once I got used to it, it was really easy.

Next time I will improve on making the folds tighter because to me the folds were loose.

I also learned that owls have good eyesight and hearing.

Kapa Haka

WALT: Perform a poi

Today at Kapa Haka we have been learning a new poi for an upcoming production in week 8.

I found it easy to do the poi because I already know it.

I really enjoyed doing Kapa Haka because my favorite part of Kapa Haka is when we get to do the poi.

Next time I need to try not to laugh when I accidentally mess up because I tend to do that sometimes.

If you want to see what poi we are doing just click on this video.

Sports with Matua Paulo

On Wednesday my class and I went out to do sports with Matua Paulo.

We were learning how to use techniques for when we were running so we could run properly.

I found it easy to understand and use the techniques.

I really enjoyed it because we got to do and learn something new.

Next time I need to try and use it more because on one of the times we had to use the techniques that were taught I nearly tripped over.

Vitamin G for Your Mind

WALT: Write down what we learned in the Book of knowledge/Comprehension.

This week in reading our teacher (Miss Peters) assigned us to a Comprehension article where we had to answer the questions correctly but for this blog post I will be writing down what I learned.

The article that I read was called Vitamin G for Your Mind is about how staying inside is affecting our daily life and I learned quite a few things from that article.

I learned that staying inside too much can cause depression or ADHD for kids that spend too much time inside.

I also learned that being outside and being more active can help with depression or ADHD and can also help motivate people to do more things.

Which one do you choose?

Niue language week 2020

 WALT: Understand Niue language week

What is the Niue language week about?

Niue language week is a week that gives students and kids (such as myself) the opportunity to learn about the Niue culture through song, dance, and cultural displays.

Why is it important?

In my opinion, Niue Language week is important because it isn't spoken that much just like how the Maori language isn't spoken that much but when we have a week to celebrate and learn that language it gives everyone an opportunity to learn more about the culture and language.

I also learned how to say three Niue words which are Fakaalofa atu (Hello), Mua Kia (Goodbye to two people), and Fakaalifa lahi atu kia mua (Hello to two people).

Maths word problem

WALT: Solve Multi-Step word problems

This week for maths our teacher gave us a math word problems slide where we have to complete two every day.

I found it easy to work out the equations because I have been practicing my maths.

I found it hard to come up with an equation for the beginning of the layout.

I really enjoyed doing this task because it was a bit of a challenge.

Next time I need to try and work the problems out properly because I remember getting some wrong but went back and corrected them.

Tikanga in the classroom

WALT: Show Tikanga in the classroom

This week's task was to create a DLO about how to show Tikanga in the classroom.

I found it easy to write down ideas about how o show Tikanga in the classroom because I already had some ideas. I really enjoyed decorating the slide. Next time I need to try to fit more detail in, e.g more ways on how you can show Tikanga in the classroom.

Show your understanding slide

WALT: Create our own Maths word problems

This weeks task was to create our own maths word problem slides and show how you can work it out.

I found it easy think of some equations for the word problem.

I found it hard to think of things to use for this for the slides as an example.

I really enjoyed creating these word problem slides because i got to decorate them.

Next time I need to try make the equations harder.

Sports with Matua Garth

This morning room 5 went out to do sports with Matua Garth. We played fun games like the game Rats and Rabbits, Tag, Numbers, and Tic-Tac-Toe.

I really enjoyed playing these games because they were fun and new.

My favourite game was Rats and Rabbits. What you have to do in this game is to get a buddy, and stand opposite to each other. When you have done that one of you guys will be the rat and the other will be a rabbit. When your animal is called you have to run away and the other person has to try and get you. If they get you they get a point and then you have to go back to the beginning.

Build a blog comment

WAL: What a quality  blog comment is

We were learning how to build a quality blog comment. For this activity we had to drag and type the words onto the fridge like fridge magnets, to form a blog comment for one of our classmates.

I found it easy to write a comment for the blog post I was writing for.

I found it hard to write a question for the blog comment.

I really enjoyed doing this activity because I got to read and explore some of my classmate's blogs to choose for this activity.

Next time I need to try and add more detail to my comment because it wasn't long enough.

The comment in this activity was for my classmate Roman, click on the link if you want to see the blog post that I was commenting on.

Multi-step maths word problems

WALT: Solve multi-step maths word problems

Our task for maths this week was to complete two math word problems a day from this maths word problem slide that our teacher gave to us. I really liked this task because it had large numbers, and some hard equations e.g:
E. 8x2+9x4=??
W.O 8x2=16 9x4=36  16+36=52
Answer:52
Perhaps next time I can try including place value partitioning when working out a word problem.

Energy - Nonrenewable Energy Sources

WALT: Increase our knowledge by reading a wide range of texts (Article a day - Book of Knowledge)

For reading this week we had to read the articles a day our teacher assigned to us and write down what we learned.
Maybe next time I can try and write more information down instead of doing something basic.

I learned that there are two types of energy: Nonrenewable and renewable.
I also learned that uranium isn't a fossil fuel, but it is classified as nonrenewable fuel.
Australia has dodged global attention on fossil fuels because of ...

100 words

WALT: Write 100 words in 10 minutes

This week for writing we had to write 100 words in ten minutes. Here is one of the stories I did (it is not real).
What I like about my story is that it is about two friends being separated but then getting back together.
Maybe next time I can try and use more grammar.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Olivia. She would go to school every day and play with her friend Cerveja.
They had been best friends since they were 3 years old, but one day Olivia left their school, leaving Cerveja sad and alone. Oliva felt sad and lonely as well because they were like sisters, they did everything together, they were always there for each other, and they loved each other very much.
A few years later Olivia went back to their school but left again which made Cerveja even sadder.
One night Cerveja texted Olivia and said " I don't think we can be friends anymore, bye" it made Olivia cry and cry and cry.
Each night Olivia would text Cerveja, saying how much she missed her, how she wanted to work things out, but Cerveja never replied.
Two years later Olivia goes to college hoping she would see her old friend  Cerveja again.
During lunch Olivia set off to find her friend, she looked everywhere, the field, the court, the field, the library even the bathrooms, but she never found her.
"She never came.." said Olivia as she sat down on the side bench, with a sad face, and almost crying, "Olivia..?".
